The 1999 Ferrari 456 M GTA is a grand tourer that combines the Italian automaker's legendary performance with the comfort and luxury of a touring car. The 456 M GTA is a revised version of the Ferrari 456, which was first introduced in 1992. The 456 was a replacement for the front-engine 412 as the company's V12-powered four seater. The updated 456M, which was the last Ferrari model to use pop-up headlamps, was replaced in 2004 by the 612 Scaglietti.
Under the hood, the 456 M GTA is powered by a 5.5-liter V12 engine that produces 442 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox, the 456 M GTA is capable of reaching a top speed of almost 300 kmh and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmh in just over 5 seconds.
The exterior design of the 456 M GTA is sleek and modern, with a low and wide stance that exudes performance. The car's lines are aerodynamic, with a front end that is reminiscent of Ferrari's classic sports cars. The interior is equally impressive, with leather upholstery and a host of high-tech features that make the 456 M GTA a comfortable and luxurious touring car.
The 456 M was unveiled in 1998, starting with chassis number 109589. One of the most significant changes in the 456 M GTA was the introduction of the "M" designation, which stood for "Modificata." The Modificata version of the 456 included several upgrades, including an improved suspension system, better brakes, and a revised exhaust system. Many changes were made to improve aerodynamics and cooling and the interior – still featuring Connolly Leather – was refreshed with new seats and other conveniences (fewer gauges on the dash, and a new Becker stereo fitted in front of the shifter). The 456 had a smaller grille with fog lights outside the grille. The undercarriage spoiler on the 456 M is fixed. The bonnet was the first commercial application of carbon fibre, the previous being made of a composite material. These changes improved the car's handling and overall performance, making it a better performer on both the road and the track.
The "GTA" in the name stands for "Automatic," indicating that the 456 M GTA was equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission. While some Ferrari purists may prefer a manual transmission, the automatic gearbox is well-suited for a grand touring car like the 456 M GTA. The automatic transmission allows for a smoother and more comfortable ride, making the car more enjoyable for long-distance trips.
Overall, the 1999 Ferrari 456 M GTA is a fantastic combination of performance, comfort, and luxury. It offers the raw power and precision handling that Ferrari is known for, while also providing a comfortable and refined interior that makes it a pleasure to drive for long distances. With its sleek design, high-tech features, and impressive performance, the 456 M GTA is a true masterpiece of Italian engineering and automotive design.
