Something for true connoisseurs: a beautiful Jensen Interceptor. This British GT was produced at the Kelvin Way Factory in Birmingham from 1966 to 1976. Unlike the first vehicle of the same name, which was made in the 1950s and largely constructed from fiberglass, the engineers of the later model returned to steel. The design of this elegant coupe was not just created by anyone – it was developed under the direction of Federico Formenti from Carrozzeria Touring in Italy. Some of the first units were also made at Vignale before production, with slight modifications, moved to the UK. A total of around 6,408 cars were made in three variants, with several hundred being convertibles.
Jensen used Chrysler V8 engines. It began with the 383 cui (6.3-liter) engine, which could be paired with a manual transmission, but most cars were equipped with the TorqueFlite automatic. The transmission delivered power to the rear Salisbury axle through a limited-slip differential. In the early 1970s, it was produced in essentially two versions – the standard Interceptor Mk I, II, and III, and the S.P. version, which featured a more powerful 7.2-liter engine.
However, even the "base" version of such a unique car is impressive – the V8 383 delivers 245 hp at 4800 rpm and 441 Nm at 3400 rpm (this is the power that reaches the wheels, with gross horsepower figures being 335 hp and 556 Nm). As you can imagine, a GT weighing around 1.8 tons, with such a healthy dose of torque, can accelerate with grace, and the dynamics, accompanied by that fantastic sound, are more than satisfying.
The offered car is in nice, original condition, with minor traces of easily fixable rust. The key point is that it is complete and fully functional. The very nice leather interior deserves a mention, offering ample luxury appropriate for a large GT. Additionally, the vinyl roof and chrome trim are in excellent condition, and the mechanics are in proper working order. The car, in a beautiful color combination, has European documentation and is ready for registration.
