One of the most beautiful creations based on the VW Beetle platform: the stunning Karmann Ghia, first introduced as a styling concept in Paris in 1953. Starting in August 1955, the Type 14 was assembled in Osnabrück, Germany, with over 10,000 units produced in the first year alone! The 2+2 coupe was built between 1955 and 1975, while the convertible version with the same interior layout followed from 1957 to 1975. By then, production included the Type 34 and later the Brazilian Type 145 TC. In short, the Karmann Ghia combines Italian design, durable German VW Beetle technology, and German handcrafted manufacturing from the Karmann coachbuilding company. The car also reached the American market, where it found considerable success.

The offered vehicle is an American version that has undergone a complete renovation approximately 10 years ago, which we rate as well-executed. US models from 1970/1971 can be recognized by the small square lights beneath the main rear taillights. The paint has a few minor imperfections, such as small scratches, but the color remains rich and attractive. The 1.6-liter engine, producing 51 horsepower, is sufficient for solid performance given the car’s weight of around 800 kg (maximum speed: 133 km/h). The engine, which has been refurbished, has only a few thousand kilometers on it and works beautifully, as does the gearbox. The car also features a new, well-fitting fabric roof.

Overall, this attractive car is currently registered on Czech vintage plates and comes with extensive documentation, including a Dutch evaluation confirming its Condition 2 rating.
