The 2007 BMW M5 Touring (E61) is a high-performance station wagon that combines the practicality of a family car with the performance of a sports car. This iconic car is a symbol of BMW's commitment to engineering excellence and remains one of the most sought-after vehicles of its era. The E60 M5 was introduced in 2004, with a V10 engine and 7-speed transmission linking the car with the BMW Sauber Formula One program. This E61 generation Touring (wagon) was only sold in Europe. During its production run, only 1.025 Touring models were built.
The M5 Touring (E61) was powered by a 5.0-liter, V10 engine that produced 507 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque. This engine was mated to a seven-speed sequential manual transmission, which provided lightning-fast shifts. The M5 Touring (E61) could accelerate from 0 to 100 kmh in just 4.8 seconds and had a top speed of 250 kmh. The E60 M5 was the fastest 4-door sedan available at the time of its introduction. Top speed is electronically restricted to 250 km/h, but could be raised to 305 km/h with the optional M-driver's package. The S85 engine was exclusively used in the E60/E61 M5 (and related E63/E64 M6) and is not based on any other engine.
The exterior of the 2007 BMW M5 Touring (E61) was designed with classic BMW styling cues, with a sleek and aerodynamic profile that exudes power and elegance. It featured a unique front grille, wider fenders, and a lower stance than the standard 5 Series Touring. The M5 Touring (E61) also featured a sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and a quad exhaust system. The larger, flared front guards on either side also featured cooling vents, reminiscent of the 1970s BMW CSL.
The interior of the M5 Touring (E61) was luxurious and stylish, with high-quality materials and impeccable attention to detail. It featured sport seats upholstered in soft leather, a premium sound system, and a full range of high-tech features, including navigation, climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. Upgrades over regular 5 Series models include a wider track, unique body panels, a colourful heads up display featuring navigation, control messages, speed, rpm and gear selection information, automated seat side bolsters, heated/ventilated seats and power rear curtain.
The 2007 BMW M5 Touring (E61) was a joy to drive, with precise handling and excellent feedback that allowed drivers to feel connected to the road. The suspension was well-tuned and provided a comfortable ride, even on rough roads. The brakes were also powerful and provided excellent stopping power.
Today, the 2007 BMW M5 Touring (E61) is highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts. Its classic styling, excellent performance, and practicality make it a true icon of the luxury car world. Prices for a well-maintained example can range from $30,000 to $60,000 depending on its condition and mileage. If you have the opportunity to drive one, you will not be disappointed. The 2007 BMW M5 Touring (E61) is a true masterpiece of automotive engineering that will always hold a special place in the hearts of luxury car enthusiasts.
