The Porsche 924S is the best of both worlds for an enthousiast wanting to enter the the Porsche transaxle world. Equpped with the 2.5-litre inline four cylinder M44/40-coded engine manufactured by Porsche (and also available in the Porsche 944), and not like its 2.0-litre predecessor – by Volkswagen, developing 148 hp for a curb weight of 1100 kilograms only, it has amazing torque in plus of a gain of power over the previous generation, that - for the US market - was rated at only 110 hp.
Avoided for many years by collectors, the so-called „poor man's Porsche” is now gaining popularity, and being still affordable - is certainly a first classic to consider compared to mostly front wheel drive compact cars from the same period. From the iconic pop-up lights to driving pleasure, this vehicle represents the 1980s decade in a nutshell.
The 924s offered for sale is was manufactured in 1987 for the US market. It is interesting to note that of all 8940 924S-es for the 1987 production, almost 7000 were made for the United States, and was ordered in silver exterior with grey interior and air conditioning. The seats feature Porsche script cloth and a leatherette trim. The car has 94 500 miles as of today and comes with a clean US title and from a long term ownership (from 2003) before it was imported few years ago to Poland to join a 1980s „iconic” car collection which core is made by US-versions of EU models. The 924S has of course all import duties paid. With the Porsche come a complete documentation and three original keys.
On the outside, the 924S has excellent bodywork without any rust and its paint was refreshed during current ownership by light paint coating, which translates to very good paint measurements: right side of the car is between 140 and 180 microns, left side between 130 and 270 microns, back is at 150 microns, roof is at 220 to 290 microns, and the front is around 200 microns. All seals present well and are not tired, the targa top has its rails changed. Two small defects are present: the lower part of the body is silver and should be matte black according to factory specs, and one decorative door skirt needs adjusting. The car matches its factory specs otherwise. Interior presents well, with a few cracks on the dashboard only.
In terms of mechanics, upon its arrival to Poland a complete oil service was performed, all belts were changed, as well as the fuel pump, alongside with a professional cleaning of the gas tank. The engine runs good and presents no leaks, the gearbox shifts very well.
The car gives fantastic driving pleasure and great performance. It sits on new tires and its chassis elements are in great condition. It is fast in curves, engine provides a lot of torque, and the suspension balances the car with precision and lightness. This 924S drives exceptionally good. It is ready to be enjoyed by its future owner.
